EVENT HISTORY
In the spring of 2007 the first Mono No Aware call for entries was announced. The event was held in November that year in the historic Galapagos Art Space at its original location on North 6th Street Brooklyn, New York. On that cold Sunday evening, with an audience that was past capacity, it was decided that there was interest large enough to continue Mono No Aware as an annual event. Since then, entries have come in from all over the world and the event has moved to larger spaces to accommodate its growing audience. In 2009 Mono No Aware found a home at Lumenhouse in Bushwick, Brooklyn which hosted the event for 2 years until its closing. Causey Gallery was host of MONO NO AWARE V in 2011 with 300+ in attendance.
Mono No Aware was intended to be and will remain a not-for-profit event. A small group of local film-makers banned together using money from their own pockets to support this film performance event dedicated to artists who create work that incorporates a cinematic element. December 3rd 2011 marked the fifth consecutive year of the Mono No Aware event, the call for entries opens again in June 2012; open to all who wish to share in the experience as filmmakers or as spectators.
