INTRO TO 16MM COLOR FILM MAKING

LEARN TO CAPTURE MOTION PICTURES ON COLOR NEGATIVE AND EDIT YOUR OWN FULLY TIMED COLOR WORK PRINT IN 5 SESSIONS + PREMIERE YOUR FILM AT A FREE PUBLIC SCREENING!

In this workshop participants will learn how to make a 16mm film from start to finish.  Curriculum covers camera options, contemporary color negative film stock options, exposure, lenses, filters, you'll also learn how to load, focus, run, maintain and operate the H16 Bolex Reflex camera.  Participants will spend one day shooting, then meet again to view their raw footage to learn how to edit on a vertical editing station in order to prepare their print for projection. The goal is to create and project a short color film on 16mm which you conceived, directed, captured, spliced edited, and project independently.  We will also discuss how to promote your short piece through a list of friendly film festivals and community venues in the greater New York area.  All materials will be provided for. LOCATION: MONO HQ 33 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn NY 5 min walk from 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, B, D, N, Q, R, & G trains.

INCLUDES:  4 classroom instruction sessions with 2 instructors, 1 day shoot with shared access to camera equipment (Bolex Rex 5 Camera, filters kit and rewind key), 100 feet of Kodak Vision3 16 mm COLOR NEGATIVE film stock, lab processing services, a 100' color work print struck and processed by ColorLab, Editing supplies (Vertical editing system with rewinds, viewer and EIKI 16mm projector), Course packet with technical information, You'll retain your negative camera original, your edited projection-ready work print, 2K video transfer of finished film by MONO NO AWARE, 2K online hosting of finished film, local & international film festival entry waivers. Plus your film will premiere at a venue in NYC TBA for free for friends and family.
